Ho Chi Minh City’s tourism authority plans to establish an information center in the Japanese capital, Tokyo, a city official said.
Nguyen Thi Lap Quoc, director of the city’s Department of Tourism (DoT), said it was doing preparatory work to set up the office in Shinbashi, one of the busiest trading centers in Tokyo.
The office will supply information about Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City to Japanese tour operators and visitors, and help launch events to promote the country’s tourism in Japan.
Quoc said if the HCMC People’s Committee, the local government, agreed, the office was likely to open early next month.
In the first eight months of 2005, the number of Japanese visitors to Vietnam reached 194,000.
