Ho Chi Minh City will organize performances of traditional costumes of Asian nations during the lunar new year 2006, or Tet, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Vietnam becoming a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
The performances on January 30 and 31 will introduce some 300 national costumes of China, Japan, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. The organizer is the Vietnam Fashion Institute (Fadin).
This will be one of the activities to be held in Ho Chi Minh City on the occasion of the coming Tet holidays following a proposal from the city’s Department of Culture and Information.
Other activities include flower market sessions at Gia Dinh and, Le Van Tam and September 23 parks, and the Saigon South New Urban Area from January 22 to 28. A flower street will be held on Nguyen Hue Boulevard from January 26 to 31, a spring fair at Tao Dan Park from January 24 to February 2, and art performances on streets on January 28-31.
A culture and food festival will take place at the Van Thanh Tourism Site in January 2006. The New Year’s Eve festival will take place at the April 30 and September 23 parks on the night of January 28 and be broadcast live. At midnight, fireworks will be let off to celebrate the new year of 2006.
